The endowed position was made possible through a 3 million dollar gift from the Penn Libraries’ Board of Advisors and the Orrery Society Council. The endowment bears the name of H. Carton Rogers III, whose forty-three-year career with the Penn Libraries concluded with his retirement in June of 2018.

University Provost Wendell Pritchett states, “This tremendous gift is a fitting recognition of his profound impact, which will be felt for generations to come. President Gutmann and I are indebted to the Libraries Overseers for their generosity in helping us to honor one of our greatest university citizens.”
