A bequest by Marion B. Graham (Education 1926, A.M. in Psychology 1929) established this fund in 1987. Mrs. Graham and her husband, A. Kenneth Graham (College 1919, Ph.D., Chemistry, 1927), earned undergraduate academic scholarships to Penn and went on to successful academic careers.

Mrs. Graham, a member of the senior society Mortarboard, was a psychologist at Penn's famous Lightner Witmer clinic, and did pioneering work in child psychology. Dr. Graham, a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the 1930s, went on to pursue a career as a consultant and in government service. His landmark work, Electroplating Engineering Handbook (3rd edition, 1971), is still frequently checked out from the Penn Library.

Their fund supports acquisitions in the subject areas of chemistry and chemical engineering at Penn's Science and Engineering Libraries, providing critical resources for the purchase of influential monographs.

Over the years, bequests and planned gifts of all sizes have played an important role in the growth and success of the University of Pennsylvania Library. As a main source of endowment support, they help ensure that the Library will be financially sound for generations to come.
