Eug Xu works as a Data Science & Society Research Assistant at Research Data and Digital Scholarship. They are a third year undergraduate in History working towards a minor in the Digital Humanities. For their history honors thesis, their research investigates GIS and mapping as techniques for historical analysis. In doing so, they collected data by hand of the Dutch East India Company’s textile trade along the west coast of South Asia. For other projects, they used BookNLP to analyze Jane Austen’s works along with authors deemed to be her successors. In their free time, Eug practices historical sewing to further their understanding for textile research. Eug adores chatting about the ethics and social implications around archives, technology usage, and AI, the global history of clothes and textiles, as well as the uses of embodied information for historical research. They want to learn more about using R (programming language) and weaving.
