Barbara Earl Thomas (American, born 1948) creates detailed and luminous cut-paper works that transfix, uplift, and inspire. Through a variety of methods and mediums, Thomas’ practice weaves together portraits, glass story vessels, and installation works that communicate the essence of their subjects, drawing inspiration from history, mythology, literature, and Thomas’ own life.

Presented in concert with Barbara Earl Thomas: The Illuminated Body, on view through May 21 in the Arthur Ross Gallery, this exhibition shares insights into Thomas’ artistic process, featuring photographs and materials from the artist’s studio.

Plan Your Visit

On view March 18 – May 22, 2024. This exhibition is free and open to the public and located on the first floor of the Fisher Fine Arts Library at the University of Pennsylvania Libraries. Penn students, faculty, and staff can visit anytime the library is open. All other visitors are welcome from 9:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays.

Penn faculty, staff, and students must swipe their PennCard for access. Visitors from outside the Penn community must present a a current, valid government or school-issued photo I.D. that contains an expiration date. Find more information to plan your visit.
