How have the requirements for entering the healthcare profession changed over time? What did medical students at the University of Pennsylvania learn in the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries? How were topics of gender and sexuality discussed? And what were the experiences of Penn healthcare students who were marginalized by race, gender, and sexuality? In this workshop we will look at the variety of records in the University Archives that document the different healthcare professions at Penn. In addition to course registers, catalogs and faculty minutes, and administrative records, we will explore student lecture notes and yearbooks that provide a glimpse into student experience from the eighteenth to the twentieth century.

This workshop will be led by J.M. Duffin, Assistant University Archivist.
