Preprints are gaining a central place within the practice of scholarly publishing. Disciplines are developing their own preprint platforms, and a system for review offers an alternative to the path of submission, peer review, revise, acceptance or rejection. Rebecca Stuhr will introduce some of the growing number of platforms, from arXiv and its "rxiv" descendents to the opportunities for peer review at these sites, and the developing option to have your preprint reviewed outside of the journal submission process.

  Participants will:

  • Become familiar with the growing number of preprint platforms
  • Become aware of how these platforms fit into the system of scholarly publishing including some copyright issues
  • The possibilities for collaboration
  • The changing peer review process (especially in the life and health sciences)
